Snowy Sprouts

It is April 29, and it is snowing. It was cold and windy today, with gusts up to 60 miles per hour, every one of which I am sure hit our house, sitting way up here on the hill. I was at work and blissfully unaware of the battering the house was taking, but I'm sure it did.

There are sprouts in my bathroom, wishing for warmer weather.

Tomatoes, multiple kinds of peppers and pumpkins in our very own hothouse.

Thinking that spring could be upon us soon, we planted tomatoes, green pepper, pasilla pepper, poblano peppers, habanero pepper (which didn't take), sweet yellow pepper, and pumpkin seeds in a seed starter. The warmest room, without direct sunlight at the time was the main bathroom, so in they went, and the door has stayed shut to keep in the temps. They've sprouted and are growing like crazy! The sun has shifted, so now they are getting some direct sun from the skylight, and they are loving it.

But they want to be outside. They are craning their heads to the sun, and I just know they want to be in expanses of dirt, sending out their roots, and hopefully providing me with a summer's worth of cheap, fresh, organic produce.

We have to be getting close. Last year, the last snow fell on May 1. I have more seeds to plant, fast growers like lettuce, radishes, carrots, and onions, but they can't go into the ground until the snow stops.

In the interim, the bathroom will have to do for some, and the rest will languish in their packets.
